Amazon Kindle Fire HD: Amazon updated its Kindle Fire with a pair 7-inch models; an HD and non-HD. The device features a 7-inch IPS TFT display with the same screen resolution and ppi of Nexus 7. Under the hood, the tablet mounts a 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM and PowerVR SGX540 graphical processor. Different from its predecessor, the device sports a 1.3MP front camera, but no front camera still. It is customized to run a skinned version of Android ICS.
Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9: It is the premium edition of Amazon’s new line of Kindle Fire tablets. The machine is to arrive in stores with an 8.9-inch IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen that features 1920 x 1200 pixels at 254ppi. It is equipped with a 1.5GHz dual core TI OMAP 4470 Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM and PowerVR SGX544 GPU. It will come in 16GB and 32GB models and it also has a rear camera similar to its younger siblings.
Barnes & Noble Nook HD: In reply to Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7, B&N launched Nook HD 7-inch Android tablet. It is designed with a 7-inch 1440 x 900 (243 ppi) display. It will be powered by a 1.3GHz dual core TI OMAP 4470 CPU and 1GB RAM. It will roll out in two memory options; 8GB and 16GB. The Android ICS tablet will measure 127 x 194 x 11mm and weigh at 315 grams.
Barnes & Noble Nook HD+: It is the larger sibling of Nook HD. The Nook HD+ is to come with a large HD IPS display. It will draw power from the same TI OMAP 4470 CPU, but clocked at 1.5GHz. The device will be available in 16GB or 32GB versions, plus it is expandable with a microSD slot. It is also meant for Android ICS and it weighs at 515gms and measures at 163 x 240 x 11.5mm.
